SUMMER ON A PLATE FROM THE WALLED GARDEN

Our day began in the June sunshine overlooking the Mendip Hills towards the very vineyard that produced the wine. We moved into the glasshouse to eat food sourced within a short distance of the view from the windows accompanied by biodynamic wines and artfully matched no /low concoctions. The walled garden must be a chef’s dream - like a beautifully presented box of chocolates! Mark Godfrey Bailli of Southwest welcomed members and our far flung Chaine guests from Brisbane and Sonoma.

The bountiful garden was clearly captured in the presentation of each course from the first courgettes to the last asparagus and loganberry pastilles made from last years harvest. No/Low beverage pairings reflected the produce from the walled garden and were seriously admired by those sipping biodynamic wines. Chef and Maitre D’ provided a lyrical introduction to each plate and glass.

A toast was proposed to Mark McCabe and team by Jacqueline Horsfield the Cotswolds Bailli as a refreshing summer shower scuppered plans to enjoy the garden further.

If members are keen to enjoy The Ethicurean you have until September as after 13 years the team will be moving onto new pastures.
