The Bordeaux 2016 vintage is one which many consider to be the greatest since 2011 and which some consider to be the greatest vintage of this century. It is a vintage of classical balance, concentration and structure and one that provides pleasure now at accessible levels and promises greatness over the long haul for the finest properties.
On the 5th March 2026 twenty-one tasters (eleven of which were Masters of Wine) assembled at Farr Vintners HQ for a “Bordeaux 2016 Ten Years On” tasting to assess whether the 2016’s were ready to drink and lived up to their lofty status. After a fair amount of discussion, the consensus was that 2016 was an outstanding vintage although it was a difficult time to taste such a grippy and structured vintage with many of the best wines still being shy, particularly as the tasting took place over two days with the inevitable tannin fatigue.
