Christmas Event at the Chichester Harbour Hotel

December 10, 2021

Our Christmas Dinner was held at The Ship, Harbour Hotel in Chichester on Friday 10th December. It was a black tie “do” and the last event arranged by Andrew Crawford before his January handover to John Wigg – our new Bailli.

On arrival we were served with a glass of Tinwood Brut and some tasty canapes. Our starter of smoked salmon cannelloni, avocado salsa and lemon oil was quite delicious although perhaps could have done with some added texture. The main course of roast loin of venison was superb – perfectly cooked and accompanied by beetroot tart and celeriac – truly a marriage made in heaven! A palate cleanser of lemon posset was followed by an indulgent dessert of tarte tatin with vanilla ice-cream. The meal was faultless and the service pleasant and efficient. However, this was our Christmas dinner and the only nod to that fact was a solitary Christmas tree in a “function room” starkly painted white with white table linen and no table decorations whatsoever – not even a candle!

Notwithstanding, it was a very good evening and Kay Knowles (who had known Andrew for 40 plus years!) entertained us with amusing anecdotes from the past and presented Penny with a bouquet of flowers and Andrew with a large wad of vouchers for Hennings Wine Merchants as a token of our appreciation for all they had done for the Solent Bailliage during the past 11 years.
