Lunch at The Golden Ball

Snuggled in the Stonor Valley in the heart of the Chilterns, The Golden Ball is now home to Chef Ben Watson wife Priya and daughter Lily. Originally from the local area, Ben spent ten years in London working alongside some of the UK’s most celebrated chefs including Jason Atherton and Gordon Ramsay. Most recently, Ben was recruited to help launch Core by Clare Smyth, the renowned Notting Hill restaurant which was awarded its third Michelin star in 2023. Priya likewise has spent many years working at the front of house in highly regarded London restaurants including The Square, Gymkhana and Brigadiers. Her experienced and friendly touch guarantees guests a warm welcome and attentive service.

We will be having a classic Chilterns Bailliage lunch, and I am sure Priya and Ben Watson, the co-founders, will look after us extremely well. They have provided a great menu. Look at the awards on their website.

There are good Hotels in both Reading and Henley with multiple options.
The Roseate in Reading our member offers good rates to stay.

Directions:

By road:
Follow Sat Nav to RG9 6AH. It has a good car park.

By rail:

There are regular services to Reading and from London Paddington, the West & Oxford. Please see www.nationalrail.co.uk for further details.
Another alternative is to go to Henley by train/bus.
In both cases you will need a taxi from the station. See Below.

By taxi:

There is a Taxi rank at Reading Station, and it is c£30 journey or £7.50pp if 4.
From Caversham it is also c£30 per taxi or £7.50pp if 4.
There is also a Taxi rank at Henley Station which is nearer and an 8 min ride. Also on the Bolt App and you can book and get a £8 to £10 per taxi.
We plan to run taxis from Reading and Caversham, please let us know if you want to join in.

By bus:

There are buses from Reading and Henley. However I would suggest Bus 28 to Henley from Reading and get taxi from Henley at c £8 to10 per taxi.
