Johan de Sousa, Young Chef Winner 2025

Johan de Sousa –Demi Chef de Partie at The Savoy was crowned “Young Chef” at the Chaîne des Rotisseurs GB Young Professional Awards in his second time competing. Johan was born in Goa and raised in London, surrounded by a rich blend of cultures that shaped the way he cooks. His culinary journey started in some of London’s most dynamic kitchens, where he built a strong foundation in technique and developed a real curiosity for global flavours. Johan’s journey exemplifies the tenacity and creativity the competition seeks to celebrate.

“For me, food is a creative outlet—where precision meets passion—and I love crafting dishes that are bold, balanced, and rooted in storytelling” said Johan. Johan’s approach to cooking is driven by constant exploration, a deep respect for ingredients, and a desire to create memorable dining experiences.

Johan took some time off last year to sharpen his skills, coming back more focused than ever leading to one of his proudest moments: winning first place at the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Young Chef Competition. “That milestone gave me new momentum, and I’m now channelling it into fresh projects—always pushing myself to evolve and break new ground in the kitchen”, Johan said.

Johan will now represent Great Britain at the International Finals in Budapest, where he’ll face top talent from around the globe
