A Glorious Lunch at Hambleton Hall

The lunch at Hambleton Hall, a joint event between Anglia and Mercia Bailliages, was a memorable celebration of fine food, elegant hospitality and one of Rutland’s most glorious settings. Bathed in warm sunshine, the gardens and beautifully kept grounds looked magnificent, with sweeping views over Rutland Water providing a splendid backdrop to the occasion. Guests enjoyed the relaxed charm of the grounds with Ayala “Brut Majeur” and chef’s canapés, before moving into a private Dining Room, where the cooking reflected the restaurant’s long-standing reputation for excellence.

The menu was beautifully judged, offering elegant seasonal choices such as charred Cornish red mullet with fennel, avocado and blood orange, or goat’s cheese raviolo with pea and mint velouté.

The main course of roast lamb was generously flavoured and well matched by the accompanying Cabernet Sauvignon, while the choice of cheeses, lemon tartlet, sorrel ice cream or Hambleton’s tiramisu brought the meal to a refined and indulgent close.

It was a graceful and thoroughly enjoyable event, made all the more special by the, fine company, bright summer weather, accomplished wine pairings and the timeless beauty of Hambleton Hall’s surroundings.
