Young Chef and Young Sommelier Competition Awards Dinner


The finalists of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Chef and Young Sommelier competitions show that determination, courage and dedication deliver rewards.

At a glittering awards ceremony held at the Savoy Hotel, Johan de Sousa –Demi Chef de Partie at The Savoy was crowned “Young Chefs” at the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs GB Young Professional Awards in his second time competing. Born in Goa and raised in London, Johan’s journey exemplifies the tenacity and creativity the competition seeks to celebrate. Johan will now represent Great Britain at the International Finals in Budapest, where he’ll face top talent from around the globe.

Taking second place was Polly Norman from the Savoy, and third place went to Louis Coppen from Talbooth Restaurant – both also second-time competitors who showed remarkable growth and flair throughout the process.

The winner of the Young Sommelier competition was another second-time entrant, Erazem Ocvirk, a standout from Gleneagles, after excelling across blind tastings, service, and wine theory. His win continues Gleneagles’ proud tradition of nurturing top sommelier talent.

“It’s a huge honour,” said Erazem. “Last year pushed me to improve – and this year I was ready. I’m proud to carry the torch for Gleneagles on the international stage.”

The runner-up was Charlie Richards of Claridge’s, whose friendly smile, poise and precision impressed the judges. Kamila Blaszcky secured third place and added to her accolades by winning the Gerard Basset Tasting Trophy for top performance in the blind tasting category – a remarkable feat showcasing her refined palate and consistency.

“This competition isn’t just about talent – it’s about perseverance, dedication, and growth,” said Philip Evins, Bailli Délégué for Chaîne des Rôtisseurs GB. “Johan and Erazem truly represent the future of our industry, and we are proud to send them forward to the world stage.”

As the international finals approach, all eyes now turn to Johan and Erazem – two exceptional young professionals poised to represent Great Britain with brilliance.
