Looking Ahead: Young Sommeliers of Tomorrow

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Sommelier Competition 2026 once again showcased the remarkable talent emerging within the UK hospitality industry. This year’s finalists demonstrated not only exceptional technical knowledge and service skills, but also the curiosity, dedication and passion that continue to define the best sommeliers of the future.

Winner Kamila Błaszczyk, runner-up Thomas Walker, and third-placed Barnaby Lewis each arrived at the competition through different journeys, yet all shared a commitment to continual learning and professional development. Their stories highlighted the importance of mentorship, community and opportunities to challenge themselves through competition.

"More than a competition, the Young Sommelier programme provides a platform for learning, networking and professional growth"

The achievements of the finalists were celebrated at the Young Professionals Awards Dinner at The Cadogan Hotel in London, where members, employers, judges and supporters gathered to recognise excellence within the profession. Kamila was crowned Young Sommelier of the Year, whilst Barnaby received the prestigious Gérard Basset Tasting Trophy for his outstanding blind tasting performance.

More than a competition, the Young Sommelier programme provides a platform for learning, networking and professional growth. It remains one of the many ways the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs continues to support and encourage the next generation of hospitality professionals.

As attention now turns to the international finals in Båstad, Sweden, we congratulate all of this year’s competitors and wish Kamila every success as she represents Great Britain on the world stage.
