With the International Jeunes Sommeliers Competition set to take place in Båstad, Sweden, from 16–18 October 2026, we turn the spotlight to this year’s Great Britain representative, Kamila Błaszczyk, as she prepares to compete on the international stage.
Originally from Poland, Kamila moved to London during a gap year and found herself naturally drawn to hospitality. Having studied advertising, she discovered a profession that combined creativity, communication and the ability to create memorable experiences for others.
Her journey into wine began at Maison Estelle, where working alongside an exceptional team of sommeliers inspired her to begin formal wine studies. What started as curiosity quickly developed into a passion, leading her to pursue a career as a sommelier.
Kamila is no stranger to the Young Sommelier Competition. Having placed third in the previous edition, she returned in 2026 with greater experience, confidence and a clearer understanding of the challenge ahead. That determination paid off with an outstanding performance, earning her the title of Young Sommelier of the Year 2026.
Beyond the competition itself, Kamila values the friendships and international connections that have come from being part of the wine community. A particular highlight has been reconnecting with fellow competitors from around the world and sharing experiences with others who share the same enthusiasm for wine and hospitality.
Despite her success, she remains firmly focused on the future. Alongside preparing for further examinations, Kamila continues to develop her knowledge through travel, study and professional experience, embracing the belief that there is always something new to learn.
The Young Sommelier Competition is about more than identifying future talent; it is about encouraging growth, curiosity and excellence within the profession. Kamila’s journey is a wonderful example of that spirit in action.
As she prepares to represent Great Britain in Sweden this October, Kamila continues to embrace new challenges, expand her knowledge and explore the ever-evolving world of wine. We wish her every success in Båstad and look forward to following the next chapter of her journey.
