18th September 2025

Chers confrères, Chères consoeurs

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us for the Bailliage’s 65th Grand Chapitre in Bath.

Enjoy the Georgian splendours of beautiful Bath

It is of particular interest this year to many as it is the 250th Anniversary of the birth of the author Jane Austen and our programme gives members a chance to enjoy many aspects of her time in Bath. Trips will include Brunel’s ground-breaking engineering works and the much-admired Georgian architecture of the city of Bath.

"We look forward to giving you all the warmest of welcomes … to a long weekend of cultural interest, culinary and vinous excellence"

The SS Great Britain in Bristol
The Circus in Bath

The programme starts on Thursday with an informal dinner in the Pomegranate Restaurant. The next day members have the option of a full day trip to Bristol to the world-famous SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension bridge with lunch in the Clifton Club or an afternoon guided walk through Bath’s UNESCO World Heritage city centre. That evening, the Welcome Dinner will be held in the stylish Georgian Guildhall.

The Guild Hall in Bath
Bath Abbey

On Saturday morning the options are a visit to the gardens and house of the American Museum a short distance from the city. This has spectacular views of the Avon Valley. Then on to a riverside lunch at the Bathwick Boatman. That afternoon another guided walk this time focusing on the arts and literature of the city – think Jane Austen.

Another connection with Jane Austen … our Induction Ceremony will be held in the church where her father was both married and buried – St Swithin’s Walcot.

Our Gala Dinner that evening will be held in the UNESCO World Heritage Roman Baths and Pump Room. The weekend concludes with a Farewell lunch at The Architect.

In the finest Chaîne tradition the teams in all these venues have planned great menus reflecting both location and time of year and you are ensured to leave saying ‘wow’.
We look forward to giving you all the warmest of welcomes, together with your guests, to a long weekend of cultural interest, culinary and vinous excellence and, most of all, great camaraderie. This event is above all a meeting of friends to share experiences together.
