Best Sommelier in the World

Every three years the World Sommelier Chapionships are held in a diferent country and each country can send just one representative. Six times in the last twenty years our national Echanson Gerard Basset has represented Britain. Coming second on two occasions. But this year he carried off the trophy and title “Best Sommelier in the World” A truly impressive achievement as the competition was over 3 days and against 51 other national competitors. Gerard thus keeps this title for thew next three years.

Gerard’s knowledge and skills are well known to everybody in the wine trade and hospitality industry in the UK. He has also lead the way in the encouragement and training of young Sommeliers.

Gerard and his wife Nina are proprietors of the Hotel Terravina in the New Forest and would be pleased to help you match wines with the foods of your choice if you visit.
