Lunch at Thompson’s, Newport, IoW

May 23, 2017

Solent’s periodic “away day” returns again. Not only is there the prospect of a fine lunch at Robert Thompson’s own establishment but the fun of the “flight” by hovercraft from Southsea and the coach trip across the Island. The price is inclusive of transport from Southsea.

Robert opened his own restaurant in 2015 but many will remember our visit to his earlier establishment, The Hambrough, at Ventnor where he was awarded a Michelin Star. However this was small beer for Robert as he had previously been the youngest ever chef to have 2 Michelin Stars at Winteringham Fields in 2006. He is still only aged 34!

He has put together for us a special menu which I am confident will be a triumph, given us the sole use of the restaurant. We shall be seated in front of the open kitchen where we can see his skills and those of his brigade at work.
