The Miller of Mansfield is a favourite of many of our members, we have held a number of dinners historically however this is the first time they have hosted a lunch for us. It is amazing to think that this is nearly the 6th Birthday of the Miller… We are really looking forward to the lunch so lets kick off our year with hopefully a sell out for the award winning The Miller of Mansfield. The fine collection of awards that the husband and wife team Nick and Mary Galer have built up in recent years include: Sawday’s Newcomer of the year and Top 50 Gastro pub, Front of House Runner up, Michelin plate and 2AA rosettes

Since 2014, Sudbury House & Restaurant 56, a modern fine dining concept housed in the hotel’s grade 2 listed building has gone on the culinary map by gaining 3 AA Rosettes in just 18 months and winning Best Gastronomic Restaurant at the Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards for 2 years running. Relax in stylish and comfortable surroundings and enjoy Executive Chef Carl Jackman’s exquisite, contemporary cuisine, exceptional service and a warm welcome. Carl, who is originally from Southampton, moved to Wantage in Oxfordshire when he was 5 years old and discovered his passion for cooking while studying Home Economics at school. Carl has 26 years’ experience working as a Chef and believes vehemently that good ingredients are key to great food. As many of you know our Committee member and founder member of Chilterns Andy McGuinness works at the club and he will be involved on the day.

This is our first event with our new member, The Woodspeen in Newbury, and we are looking forward to enjoying a superb Michelin Star lunch. We have additionally organised a tour of the vegetable plots and gardens at 1.45pm. We have worked with Maitre Restaurateur Alessandro Fasoli MCA and Andre Marchand the Restaurant Manager and his team to put this fine lunch together.
This is a joint Event with the Wessex Bailliage.

Maître-Restaurateur, Xavier LeBellego, welcomes us on World Chaine Day which is particularly appropriate with his French influenced restaurant on Reading’s Forbury Square. As many of you know the Chilterns Baillage was founded here and I am really looking forward to returning. This is French cooking with a touch of modernity. Xavier is a founder and Committee member of the Chilterns Bailliage which has successfully grown since its launch in 2015. [Please note the change of date from that previously announced]

We go back to the French Horn for our Kick Off event for 2019. It is a couple of years since we had a full house here and we look forward to another great event with Michael Emmanuel and his team. The original Chaine Plaque is still by the magnificent fireplace with the new plaque nearby.

A menu has been compiled for us, along with a flight of wines specially selected, dishes designed for our event and when one reads of The Team’s combined accomplishments we are indeed most fortunate.

A favourite of many of our members and hopefully again we will sell out our event at the award winning The Miller of Mansfield in Goring-on-Thames. This year The Diners Choice 2018 award has been added to the fine collection that the husband and wife team Nick and Mary Galer have built up in recent years. These include winning Waitrose Good Food Guide Restaurant of the year, Luxury Travel Guide Hospitality Awards Winner, and Best Destination Pub, in the Muddy Stilettos award.
Nick and Mary have certainly created a great menu with wine pairings to make it an outstanding night.

Dinner at Restaurant 56 in Faringdon 7.30pm for 8.00pm
This is our first Chaine event at Restaurant 56 and we look forward to a great Chilterns evening dining with Executive Head Chef Andrew Scott and his team. Andrew has spent his entire career in Michelin-starred kitchens, training initially at Mallory Court, Lords of the Manor and L’Enclume then moving on to the Curlew restaurant in East Sussex. Andrew hails from Banbury and marks a return to his home county of Oxfordshire at Restaurant 56. In 2014, he joined Sudbury House as Executive Head Chef - this exciting project included the opening of Restaurant 56, a modern fine dining concept housed in the hotel’s grade 2 listed building. Andrew and his team put the restaurant on the culinary map by gaining 3 AA Rosettes in just 18 months and winning Best Gastronomic Restaurant at the Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards for 2 years running. In 2016, Andrew achieved a life-long dream of taking part in the Great British Menu, representing the Central Region and winning many fans on his journey.
