Commis Chef Progress

Commis Chef Winner Continues to Shine

Robert Taylor, the young Yorkshire chef who was winner of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs 2008 GB Commis Chef Competition, is continuing to make impressive progress in his chosen career.

Following a spell assisting the well-known TV Chef, Rosemary Shrager, in the prestigious Swinton Park Cookery School, where his skills and enthusiasm were greatly appreciated by all with whom he came into contact, Rob has been promoted and given the challenging task of orchestrating an imaginative dining experience.

As an extension to the very successful Samuel’s Restaurant, Swinton Park management introduced a ‘Chef’s Table’ facility under the general guidance of Executive Chef Simon Crannage. Rob Taylor was chosen to run the project and it has been an outstanding success. Groups of ten people dine in the kitchen of the Cooking School where Robert explains and cooks the dishes being served. Guests are encouraged to discuss the food with Robert and to ask questions about all aspects of the meal and its preparation. The opportunity to observe and to learn about fine cuisine at such an intimate level has proved very popular and the initiative has been well supported by an enthusiastic clientele.

Robert is very clear that the valuable experience he gained as a competitor in the Commis Chef competitions in London and Paris was instrumental in giving him the confidence to take on this very challenging assignment. His ongoing success is an excellent illustration of how budding young chefs, and the establishments which employ them, can benefit from the efforts of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs to encourage and assist young professionals in pursuit of career goals.
