‘Taste of the Solent’ Lunch at Hallidays, Funtington

Sunday, October 26, 2008

Solent members are fortunate to live in a richly fertile part of the country surrounded by thriving farmland, where it is popular to find a place in the countryside for Sunday lunch.

This autumn we invite you to join us at the thatched cottage of Halliday’s of Funtington for a meal using seasonal produce from local farmers. The restaurant was established in the 1960’s by Bill and Barbara Halliday, for fine dining of the highest standard. Andy and Julia Stephenson have successfully carried on this tradition for the last 11 years, and they are committed to using the abundant variety of food produced in the area.

Andy Stephenson was trained at Highbury College, and went on to work in London for the brothers Albert and Michel Roux. He later spent three years improving his skills at Michelin-rated restaurants in the south of France, and a year as a personal chef on a luxury yacht. Before taking over Halliday’s he was head chef at The Angel in Midhurst, where his restaurant was awarded three rosettes.

With so much emphasis on food miles, ingredient traceability and the carbon footprint of what we eat, Andy has devised a menu using only locally grown and reared produce.
